Education

Christian education is at the very heart of the church. In the educational process the Spirit of God encounters people of all ages so that they are nurtured in faith, grow in knowledge and experience, and are inspired and empowered to live as disciples of Jesus Christ.

This call to discipleship compels us to share our faith and serve others in the home, the community, and in God’s world.

Growing with God
Sunday school at Advent is for children age 3 through grade 6. Classes are held at 9:30 am beginning the first Sunday after Labor Day in September, and continuing through mid-May. See calendar below.

Our goal is to facilitate and foster a long term relationship with God. We discuss practical applications of scripture as they relate to children today, and use personal journal reflections to further develop connections with the scripture. We incorporate worship involvement, singing, and community service into our program.

Our class overlaps with the worship service; the children learn the scripture lessons at a developmentally appropriate level and then enter the service after the sermon.

Curriculum: We use the Whirl curriculum in our program. Whirl follows the common lectionary, so the children are learning from the same scripture readings as their parents every week.

Confirmation
Confirmation at Advent is a program for young people in Grade 7 and 8. Confirmands are involved in weekly classes and are encouraged to serve on Sunday morning in various roles.

Confirmation Schedule
Please bring your Here We Stand Student Book, Bible, a small notebook, and a pencil/pen to every class. Classes start in September.

** Currently Confirmation Classes are being held most Sundays from 11:30am-1:30pm. Bring a bagged lunch. Classes will be shared with Hope Lutheran Church once again. We also participate in the Calgary City Wide group that meets normally one Wednesday each month.

Weekday Studies
Regular Bible classes start in the fall through to spring.
